Forecast Discussion
Multiple low-pressure systems will sit over Ohio bringing us multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms today into tomorrow. The main thunderstorm threat will primarily be in the afternoon and evening, but overnight thunderstorms could be a possibility as well. The SPC has put Athens under a slight risk (2/5) for severe weather today while NWS Charleston put out a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the risk of flash flooding this weekend. This slight risk indicates any severe storms to develop will likely be scattered to isolated, and the main risk for Athens and the surrounding areas will be damaging wind gusts and hail.
Unfortunately, the rain is expected to continue into Saturday and possibly even Sunday, making this a very soggy and gloomy graduation weekend for our graduating Bobcats. While the severe threat will primarily impact us today, there could be a rumble of thunder or two tomorrow. Thankfully, by Tuesday, high-pressure is expected to return with calmer conditions to follow.
