Forecast Discussion

Happy September!

Our week will start off with some sunny high pressure days, only to lead into some rain come later midweek. For the next 36 hours, winds majorly stay easterly, switching southeasterly and soon southwesterly come Wednesday. Very early morning Thursday, a strong and deep cold front greatly raises chances of rain for all of Ohio. The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has Athens, OH on the line of thunderstorms – chance and hatched – so some rumbles of thunder are likely, but severity and instability are looking to be on the lower end. Supercells are not fully ruled out, but while conditions may be favorable, the surface and environmental conditions may not be enough to support any structure for severity.

After the cold front passes on Thursday, the end of our week and into the weekend will continue the trend of below-average temperatures, high pressure, and sunny days with clear nights!
