Technical Forecast Discussion
Short-Term Forecast (Thursday 09/11/2025 through Saturday 09/13/2025):
For the entire short-term, high-pressure is expected to dominate the region with an upper-level ridge slowly developing alongside it. Relatively cool air could creep in at the mid-levels on Thursday, however, warmer air will likely immediately fill in its place by the evening and into Friday. Warmer temperatures near the surface will generally stay quite consistent. A predominately dry airmass will remain a prominent feature in the short-term but could roll over into most of the long-term as well. A lack of atmospheric moisture and convection with strong sinking motion will discourage plenty of cloud development during this time, allowing daytime temperatures to steadily rise into the mid-80s and stable conditions to follow.
Long-Term Forecast (Sunday 09/14/2025 through Wednesday 09/17/2025):
Very little variation is expected with the long-term forecast. Incredibly warm conditions will be seen at the near surface as well as warmer temperatures at 500 mb. Some minor instability could be present with a cooler layer at 700 mb but sinking motion from surface high-pressure and a ridge aloft won’t allow any use to come out of it. Sunday could see a batch of moisture sneak into the region throughout the levels of the atmosphere, but this moisture will likely primarily be used for cloud development and not much else. By Monday through Wednesday, dry, stable conditions will only persist as our temperatures remain in the mid-80s. This period of dry, hot weather will likely worsen the drought seen in southeastern Ohio, and without a substantial and prolonged period of rain, we are unlikely to crawl out of it anytime soon.
