Technical Forecast Discussion
Key Messages:
- Temperatures will warm substantially into the upper-50s Friday and Saturday as a warm front attached to a low overtakes the state.
- The chance for snow and rain return early next week as another low sweeps south of the state.
- Temperatures to fall into the 40s because of the departing low and cold front associated with it, but will steadily climb through the week.
Short-Term Forecast (Thursday 02/26/2026 through Saturday 02/28/2026):
A chain of low-pressure systems will move just south of the state, bringing some clouds into the region today. Thankfully, these lows will rapidly push eastward and high-pressure will fill in by Friday. A stationary front will linger briefly today before hastily following these departing lows. A broad trough will dig just over Ohio into the coming days, and with an approaching low that will deepen by Saturday, we’ll see temperatures warm back up into the 50s both Friday and Saturday as this low puts the state in the warm sector. Some moisture may follow behind the cold front associated with this low, but it’s unlikely much will come out of it in terms of precipitation for our region. Nonetheless, stable conditions are expected for the state as we move into the weekend.
Long-Term Forecast (Sunday 03/01/2026 through Wednesday 03/04/2026):
This upcoming week may be a slight uptake in precipitation. While high-pressure will dominate for the start of the work week, another low to the south may develop that’ll bring moisture from the Gulf up into the state. At times early Monday morning, this may fall as snow, but as the days warm up, this snow may transition into rain. Confidence in this system isn’t the highest, but there is a solid chance that we could see the return of snow once more as winter keeps its claws dug into the state. All the while, temperatures will drop back down into the 40s by this time as the cold front from the previous low sweeps over the region. Overall, we’re likely to see some more precipitation next week and cooler temperatures that will, however, steadily climb upward.
