Forecast Discussion
A Special Weather Statement is in effect in Athens county and the surrounding area from later this morning into the afternoon today. Due to a cold front moving through the area, high winds gusts from 25 to 35 mph are expected. Ensure any outdoor objects, especially any holiday decorations, are safely secured. It will continue to be noticeably more windy until Friday afternoon, but today remains the primary period of concern for any safety hazards from these gusts.
In addition to the high winds, this cold front will also cause the temperatures to gradually decrease all day today — we’ve already hit our daytime high this morning. By tonight’s evening forecast, temperatures will drop down to the upper-30s and continue to drop to the upper-20s tomorrow morning. Thanksgiving Day will be cold and windy, with a high right above freezing, so be sure to keep the wind chill in mind while dressing for the holiday. The remainder of the week will remain consistently cold and partly cloudy, with showers possible Sunday to end the week.
