Athens County is under a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms and excessive rainfall today. This is a level one out of five, and damaging winds are the primary severe mode expected. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out for the afternoon and evening.

A low-pressure system will be moving across the eastern Ohio Valley and have a cold front stall over southeast Ohio Sunday morning. This will start the washout of the day in the early hours, with 0.75” of rain forecasted for today. There will be minor breaks in the rain after 8 p.m. tonight, but rain can still be expected for the majority of Monday morning. Every day this week has chances for rain, with the biggest chances seen today, tomorrow, and Wednesday.

Tuesday will be our first noticeable break in the rain. A mix of sun and clouds can be expected for the middle of the week. Rain is likely to come again late Tuesday into Wednesday from another low-pressure system remaining close to our southwest. Thursday is expected to be the nicest day with the lowest chance of rain and mostly sunny skies. Cloud coverage will increase by the end of the week to support another round of rain to come late Friday night.
