Forecast Discussion

This week mark the beginning of an obnoxious heat wave that will affect the region. An upper-level ridge and a surface high pressure system will be the culprits for this. This high pressure system will also be keeping wind calm through the week, which will serve to raise heat indices over the next couple of day. Expect heat indices to be over 100 degrees at times and ensure you stay safe, wear sunscreen, drink water, and get adequate shade during the week. Especially if you work or spend a lot of time outdoors.

This evening, as well as tomorrow evening, the surplus of moisture in the region will cause some pop-up thunderstorms in the early evening hours, none of these storms are expected to be severe.

This heat wave will continue until the weekend, with the highest ambient temperature expected Friday, where we could see ambient temperatures in the triple digits, and the heat index climb above that. While we’ll see a slight cooldown this weekend, daytime high temperatures will still range from the high 80s to low 90s. See the National Weather Service’s Heat Advisory for more details.
