Forecast Discussion
As of this morning, the U.S. Drought Monitor has Athens, OH – as well as a majority of Ohio – upgraded to a D1 (Moderate Drought) level. Small bush fires may be possible. Please be aware if you plan on lighting any fires this week.
This week will finish up warm and sunny! A surface cold front, however, moves in Friday night and will greatly increase cloud cover into Saturday morning, but these clouds will decrease throughout the day on Saturday. Winds for the next 48 hours majorly stay north-northeasterly and calm, and dewpoints will steady in the upper 50s with daytime highs in the high 80s. Rain chances return next week as a surface warm front will help lift moisture at the surface and at some elevation. Daytime relative humidities will also drop down to the low 30%s, an effect of the moderate drought level.
