Technical Forecast Discussion

Short term (Wednesday 11/7 through Saturday 11/10)

The region will be in the center of broad upper level troughing on as Thursday appraoches. A high pressure system will quickly approach behind the frontal system that hits the region on Tuesday that enhances dry and fair conditions. The upper level low will begin to dig late Wednesday into early Thursday that will result in the region being put under the downstream portion of the trough that will enhance instability. A weak low pressure system looks to be generated by this trough enhancement later Thursday that will create precipitation in the area for Thursday night and through Friday. A cold front associated with the low pressure system will put Friday evening temperatures below freezing which could result in widespread frost for Saturday morning. With precipitation still possible for Saturday, a slight chance of snow will exist as surface and mid level temperatures will border below 32 degrees. CAA will continue through Saturday as temperatures only reach the low 40s, but dry air will create calm and clear conditions for all of Saturday.

Long term (Sunday 11/11 through Tuesday 11/13)

Weak troughing will exist in the upper levels on Sunday. While models show an abundance of moisture, high pressure will develop over the Appalachians that will discourage any possible precipitation for Sunday. The upper level trough will begin to dig on Monday as well as gain a negative tilt, putting the region under the downstream portion of the trough. A jet streak exceeding 140 knots will be present on Monday. Athens will be in the right entance region of the jet streak late Monday which will be when precipitation is most likely. Temperatures on Monday night will be around the mid to low 30s. There will be a possibility for snow late Monday into early Tuesday as temperatures hang around the low 30s at this time. Dry air will move in for mid Tuesday. Considerable CAA will exist on Tuesday as highs will only reach the mid 40s.
