A cold front from a mature mid-latitude cyclone will pass over Ohio today. With strong southerly winds comes the chance for a rain shower later in the day. Athens has been upgraded to a slight chance for severe weather today (a 2 out of 5); the main threat for Athens is wind and hail. Locally heavy rainfall may also be a possibility. These scattered thunderstorms are expected later into the evening around dinner time. While Athens is currently not in the 2% risk for tornadoes today, you should still be weather aware for any changes that may occur the closer we get to the evening.

A cooling trend is expected the rest of the weekend and into early next week thanks to a broad trough in the upper atmosphere. This trough will allow cooler air to travel from the north to bring our high temperatures in the upper 70s, and our lows to as low as 48 degrees!
