Technical Forecast Discussion

Key Messages:

  • Rain showers may return Friday evening as a cold front sweeps over the region, bringing us cooler temperatures on Saturday.
  • Temperatures will climb moving into the new week, though rain chances could return with the slim possibility of a rumble of thunder Monday through Wednesday.

Short-Term Forecast (Thursday 04/09/2026 through Saturday 04/11/2026):

An occluded low will swipe just north of the state into Canada through Friday. Generally zonal flow will dominate into the coming days, though a ridge will begin to build on Saturday. By Friday evening, we can expect a cold front to sweep over the Great Lakes, advecting slightly cooler air into Ohio. Ahead of this cold front, however, will be our next chance of rain Friday evening. A slim corridor of moisture will push from the west, providing a small possibility for rain at this time. Instability isn’t likely to be present in these rain showers, so thunderstorms aren’t expected. This cooler air will only drop our temperatures into the mid-60s on Saturday, though we won’t stay there for long after the short-term. High-pressure will rapidly dominate over the state by the weekend, providing a significant amount of stability in the area.

Long-Term Forecast (Sunday 04/12/2026 through Wednesday 04/15/2026):

Temperatures will begin to climb once more on Sunday as multiple warm fronts overtake the state, providing us plentiful warm, southerly air. While chances are still fairly low, we could see some more rain showers next week as some bits of moisture move up from the Gulf alongside the warm air. This all will follow alongside relatively weak lows pushing eastward throughout early next week, allowing for some amount of minor instability to ripple into southeastern Ohio. The chance for thunderstorms is quite low, especially with weak instability, but there still remains a small chance for a rumble of thunder Monday through Wednesday. During this time, a ridge will readily develop, though a jet streak could develop to the northwest of us by Wednesday.
