Today, a cold front will sweep through the region sometime this afternoon. This is going to be a great relief from the uncomfortable temperatures we have experienced lately, and temperatures are expected to get down to the low-80s and possibly the high-70s over the weekend. The low-pressure system bringing this nice cold front is being brought in by an upper-level shortwave trough. The shortwave is expected to become cut off by the weekend over our region, and this surface low will linger, keeping the chances for showers present through the long-term forecast period until the trough begins to push off to the east by the end of the weekend.

Not much active weather is expected in terms of severe weather, so just make sure to prepare for the chance of rain if you plan on being outdoors the rest of this week and some of the weekend. Looking at the latest models for the early to middle part of next week, more rain could be on the way with a stronger upper-level trough that could move through our region with its own cold front. We will be keeping an eye on this system as we get closer to that time. For now, enjoy the slight cooldown!
