Forecast Discussion
Calm, mild weather lasts through the day today before a potent low-pressure system passes through the area starting tonight. With the arrival of this system, heavy rain and strong thunderstorms will be possible, and it will also be windy, with gusts Wednesday in excess of 35 mph outside of thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk of severe weather for Athens tomorrow, the main threats being a thunderstorm or two containing damaging winds or large hail. Afterwards, temperatures will plummet to around 40 degrees on Thursday before rising a bit on Friday, where another much less significant system will make its way into the region. Sunnier weather returns Saturday with a cool high in the mid-40s.
