Forecast Discussion

A blocking pattern will continue over the next few days as a strong upper-level ridge and surface high-pressure is keeping from any system moving through. However, a brief relief will occur tonight as a dry cold front moves through dropping Tuesday’s temperatures in the upper-80s. There is a chance for rain Wednesday night into Thursday as a warm front passes through with an associated low-pressure to the north but could also entirely miss Athens. On Thursday, temperatures will continue to climb into the mid to upper-90s. The NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook which can see heat indices in the 100s for Thursday and Friday. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids when outdoors and use precaution with any strenuous outdoor activities. Luckily, another dry cold front will move through Friday night cooling temperatures back into the mid-80s for Saturday.
