Forecast Discussion

After a rainy Sunday, more rain and moisture is on the rise for Athens. As a low pressure system swoops into the north of Ohio and out of Michigan, a cold front will move into Athens and bring showers and chances of thunderstorms. Temperatures will remain in the low 60s at night and high 70s through the rest of the week during the day.

Despite these rains and as of September 17th, 2024, the U.S. Drought Monitor still has Athens, OH under a Level D4 Exceptional Drought, which is the highest level.

As of now, September 23rd, the National Weather Service has issued Hazardous Weather Outlook from Tuesday through Sunday and the Athens region is included. Isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. These storms may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail. Rain shower and thunderstorm chances continue through the rest of the week, and heavy downpours may impose localized flooding concerns.
