Technical Forecast Discussion

Key Messages:

  • Stable conditions are expected Sunday through Tuesday as high-pressure remains over the region.
  • Rain may return on Thursday as another low-pressure system moves through.
  • Warmer temperatures will stick around for the most part through Saturday but will dip on Friday after the passage of the previously mentioned surface low.

Short-Term Forecast (Sunday 12/14/2025 through Tuesday 12/16/2025):

High-pressure will sit over the region for the entirety of the short-term. Temperatures will steadily begin to rise moving into Monday as a ridge overtakes the region. 500 mb heights will remain steadily positive, only enhancing stable conditions through Tuesday. We’ll see a significant lack of moisture through most of the atmosphere, though some moisture aloft may allow some upper-level clouds to develop. While clouds may briefly dissipate early Tuesday, they will likely return by the afternoon, increasing into Wednesday. Overall, calm conditions will define the short-term.

Long-Term Forecast (Wednesday 12/17/2025 through Saturday 12/20/2025):

Clouds will return on Wednesday, and especially Thursday and Friday, as yet another low-pressure system begins to move eastward towards the state. Temperatures will continue to rise through Thursday as a warm front associated with this oncoming low overtakes the state Wednesday and Thursday. Winds are expected to dramatically pick up Thursday as this low deepens. A considerable shortwave will follow alongside this surface low, and as moisture moves in, we’ll likely see rain on Thursday. This rain is not expected to be too significant and will likely move out of the region as quickly as it arrived. The associated surface low will rapidly make its way northeastward Friday with high-pressure following quickly behind it. As this low passes over the state, another cold front will move over southeastern Ohio, dropping our temperatures back down into the lower-30s once more. Temperatures will rise Saturday thanks to another warm front as well as stable conditions follow.
