Technical Forecast Discussion
Key Messages:
- High-pressure will slowly push out of the state by Tuesday as low-pressure moves in, bringing back the possibility for snow once more Tuesday morning.
- We may see some showers and possibly even some rumbles of thunder Thursday as a shortwave moves over the state.
- Temperatures will steadily rise into the week and into next weekend.
Short-Term Forecast (Sunday 03/01/2026 through Tuesday 03/03/2026):
Temperatures will begin to rapidly climb Monday and Tuesday as the jet stream keeps above the state for the foreseeable future. High-pressure will remain over the Great Lakes and north-central US, moving eastward, through Tuesday, keeping the region stable. A chain of lows from the south will push northeastward through Tuesday and, with a band of moisture moving over southern Ohio, we may see some snow flurries Monday morning. These flurries may get heavy at times in the mid-morning but will likely taper off by the afternoon as temperatures warm above freezing. If any snow accumulates, it’s unlikely to total above an inch. Expect winds to become more southerly as we progress through Tuesday as these lows creep up on us, especially as a warm front overtakes the southern portion of the state. Clouds are also expected to build thanks to the current high-pressure being forced out of the state into the coming days, allowing our overnight temperatures to warm significantly, leaving little day/nighttime temperature contrast.
Long-Term Forecast (Wednesday 03/04/2026 through Saturday 02/07/2026):
Low-pressure will continue to remain over much of the region. Moisture will stick around for the remainder of the week, and with a developing ridge, we could see persistent rain during this time. A minor shortwave will pass over the state Thursday into Friday and bring the chance for rain and the possibility of a rumble of thunder. Thankfully, these showers and thunderstorms aren’t expected to be severe with too little instability to encourage strong storm development. Throughout this time an upper-level ridge will continue to allow warm, moist air from the south, keeping our temperatures quite warm into the start of next weekend. These temperatures may even get into the upper-60s and could even reach into the 70s. Skies will begin to slowly clear on Friday as these lows move eastward and higher pressure fills in.
