Technical Forecast Discussion Meet the Forecaster

Issued: 8pm on Thursday, August 13th 2020

Forecast Discussion

Present satellite and composite radar imagery yield pop showers to the east of Athens and the surrounding counties. A quasi-stationary frontal boundary is draped just to the southeast of the forecast area and over central Kentucky. This will increase the chance of showers and thunderstorms into tomorrow afternoon. The chance for rain will continue into Friday night as this frontal boundary remains largely stationary. Another round of thunderstorms are possible on Sunday as a cold front advances through the region. A strong ridging pattern will build in from the Plains, ushering in a drier and likely below normal temperatures as model guidance is suggesting for next week.
