Forecast Discussion
As of earlier today, a low pressure system that majorly influenced our recent rains and cloud cover exits into West Virginia. Rain and storm chances taper off into tonight as a high pressure system moves in from the west, clearing out cloud cover and dropping the relative humidity range to 65-70% rather than the 90%+ from the rainfall and increase in moisture. Winds now majorly stem from the north since the cold front passed and will be relatively calm for the next forty-eight hours. A broad ridge will blanket our region and amplify this dry air mass. As we move into the weekend, calm, warm, and sunny conditions return.
Unfortunately, the previous rains were not enough to drop Athens’ D1 (Moderate Drought) level, updated this morning. All of Ohio continues to be at a certain level of drought, with some locations having dropped to a D0 (Abnormally Dry).
