Forecast Discussion

After today’s cold front passes through, another one is on its way. Tomorrow is looking to be majorly sunny, but increasing clouds throughout the day will lean tonight’s the rain and thunderstorm chances tomorrow night from a second cold front. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has Athens, OH in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) and a 2-4% hatched area for tornados for Friday. The shortwave trough may have a line of possible convection, but overall stability is on the lower end; thunderstorms are not ruled out, however! Rain continues tomorrow night into Saturday morning. High pressure will move in once the cold front leaves our region – switching winds from southwesterly to northwesterly – giving the rest of the weekend clear cloud cover and sunny days.

The night sky will be mostly clear on Sunday night: perfect for viewing the Corn Moon! Unfortunately, North America is not in the viewing region for the Total Lunar Eclipse.
