Hazardous Weather Outlook

Hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day! A light round of rain showers has already made an approach on our area this evening in response to an upper level disturbance passing by. Any precipitation that falls will be light and should dissipate by early morning Wednesday. The main story for the week is the next system consisting of an upper level trough and associated surface low pressure system arriving on Thursday. We will be in the warm sector of this low Wednesday, which means record breaking high temperatures are potential in some spots, with highs in the 70s expected! Moisture from the Gulf will aid in the strengthening of this system, providing the potential for strong to severe storms for southeast Ohio. Thus, the Storm Prediction Center has put much of southeast Ohio under a marginal risk for severe weather Thursday, with damaging winds being the main threat. The threat for severe storms will quickly go away Thursday night with the loss of heating and as the cold front from the low moves through, dropping temperatures below freezing and transitioning any rain to a wintry mix overnight Thursday. No snow accumulation is expected, and all precipitation should diminish by Friday morning, with high pressure overtaking this more active weather pattern we will witness.
