A quiet evening and overnight can be expected tonight. Slight high-pressure will fill in briefly, allowing the region to breathe for a small while before the chances for rain and possible thunderstorms roll through once more. The Storm Prediction Center has put Athens under a Marginal Risk (1/5) for severe weather tomorrow with the main concern being severe wind gusts. The highest rain chance will likely be in the morning, but the greatest possibility for thunderstorms will come into the late afternoon and evening, spilling into the overnight. The Weather Predication Center has also put most of southern Ohio under a slight risk for excessive rain, and in combination with still relatively dry soil, we may have a continued possibility for flash flooding. Moving into the end of the week, we’ll begin to see drier conditions once more as high-pressure and a broad ridge move back into the region. Conditions similar to what defined August and much of September are expected to return starting Friday, unfortunately, which doesn’t pair well with our persistent drought in the state.
