The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Athens, OH until 8:00pm June 26th with heat indices up to 104ºF. Drink lots of water, keep cool, take lots of breaks, remember to apply sunscreen, and watch closely for vulnerable populations (newborns, children, elderly, those that are pregnant, and those that have chronic illnesses). The National Weather Service has also issued a Heat Advisory effective from 8:00am to 8:00pm on Friday, June 27th; the heat indices are only up to 101, but please PROECT yourself by keeping cool and hydrated. Athens, OH is also in the region of a Marginal Risk (1/5) for severe weather throughout the day.

The heat wave isn’t over just quite yet. With dewpoints in the 70s and air temperatures in the 90s tomorrow and into Friday, the heat index will be in the lower 100s. Burns, heat exhaustion, and heat illnesses can still occur even if clouds grant a little shade. Also, strong to marginally severe thunderstorms are possible Friday.
