Showers and thunderstorms continue to dominate the forecast as summer concludes. Athens County is under a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) for excessive rainfall tonight, supporting a flood warning in effect until 9 p.m. tonight. Flood prone areas are still flooded, as it is taking longer for the water to fully drain out. A flood watch is now active (from 8 p.m. tonight) until 12 p.m.Monday morning. Excessive runoff may result in continual flooding. More rounds of rain are heading our way tonight, which could have flash flooding possible with localized heavy downpours. Along with all of this, a marginal risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms is in place tonight. Outside of all the flooding concerns, damaging wind gusts are possible to be tagged with these storms.

A break from the rain is coming! A cold front will fully pass through the Ohio Valley tonight, having our temperatures stay below 80 degrees this week! Tomorrow morning will be damp, but any lingering showers will clear out by 10 a.m. Overcast skies are expected tomorrow through Tuesday, as a backdoor cold front moves through the area Tuesday night. This will bring another round of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. Our first few days of fall will have some lingering showers in the early mornings, but will clear out by the weekend. Stay aware of any flood communications sent tonight into tomorrow, and enjoy the cool weather as autumn makes its full return this week.
